Applied Kinesiology (AK)
A dynamic diagnostic method that facilitates a more complete evaluation and treatment of dysfunction in the body.
AK is primarily concerned with the relationship between muscles and the nervous system, as well as all other body systems. The ability to have an insight into the very subtle workings and inter-relationship of the structural, chemical and mental aspects of our bodies (the triad of health) allows for a truly holistic system of medicine.
Upon determination of causations of the dysfunction, the correct therapeutic intervention may be determined and administered. This allows for a very personal and accurate diagnosis/treatment regime required for the resolution of the presenting health issue. Patients are impressed by the palpable and observable changes in their bodies, and are usually very enthusiastic in recommending it to their friends and family.
Many osteopaths or chiropractors learn few, if any accurate muscle testing procedures during their undergraduate degree. This is likely because there are many confounding factors that can affect the outcome of a muscle test, and the examiner needs to be able to control for these. This is where Applied Kinesiology excels, and through manual muscle testing the examiner can find underlying hidden imbalances in the body, through neurological feedback and the body’s motor responses to challenges.
Muscle testing is one of the best ways to achieve accurate communication with the body. It is invaluable not only for diagnosis and the choice of appropriate treatment, but also for checking the immediate clinical outcome. It also dramatically expands your ability to treat a wider spectrum of health conditions.
Treatments may involve:
- specific joint manipulation or mobilization
- various myofascial therapies
- quick and accurate cranial corrections
- treatment of acupuncture meridians and points
- testing of homoeopathic and herbal medicines
- clinical nutrition and dietary management
- counselling skills
- evaluation of environmental irritants
- various reflex procedures
You can make the treatment fit the person rather than the other way around.
About the Course
The foundation training course in Applied Kinesiology is open to practitioners who have completed a 3000 hour full time undergraduate education (i.e. 3+ years) in a medically oriented degree such as osteopathy, chiropractic, physiotherapy, medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.
This is a clinically relevant and powerful course of study that will expand the diagnostic skills of the young as well as the experienced practitioner, so that difficult or more complicated patients may be better evaluated. In a step-by-step learning curve, each module will build on the previous one, providing an evolving set of skills. This course will provide the necessary tools to determine when, where and how to treat in order to achieve optimal improvement in your patients.
